New experiences within TRUSS

Hi everyone,

Summer is now behind us and winter has already come, at least in Ireland!
But, at the very end of August, I attended my 1st conference within TRUSS along with my co-fellows.

The Civil Engineering Research in Ireland 2016 (CERI2016) Conference, with around 180 delegates, took place in Galway, Ireland on the 29th and 30th of August and was held in the Engineering Building at National University of Ireland (NUI) Galway.
This conference was focused on the subject of civil engineering, including bridge, environmental and structural engineering, concrete technology, geotechnics and other forms of research.

My paper’s presentation, entitled “Developing braided FRP reinforcement for concrete structures” (co-authored by Ciaran McNally and Greg Byrne), was scheduled on Monday morning, 29th August, in “Materials I” session. I talked mostly about my project’s literature review and my first results from the laboratory and numerical work I conducted so far.

It was a great opportunity to share ideas with other researchers, talk about my project and meet new people working in the Civil Engineering sector.
Now, I am looking forward for the upcoming CICE2016 conference - 8th International Conference on Fibre-Reinforced Polymer Composites in Civil Engineering - in Hong Kong, China on December 2016, where I’ll highlight my work and interact with the local & international research community in my research field.

As you can observe from our “traditional TRUSS family” photo, we really enjoyed this event spending time all together and we will meet again soon enough for the next TRUSS meeting in Dublin on early December!

Finally, our project manager, Loreto Manriquez, came up with the idea of creating short videos for every TRUSS fellow, talking about his/ her individual research project and the benefits of being a Marie Sklodowska-Curie researcher. We filmed my video on August in UCD and here is the result uploaded in YouTube:

I’ll come back soon with fresh posts!
